This is the first in a two-semester course on elementary statistics, applicable to the problems of business and management. The first semester focus is on descriptive statistics, topics covered include: the nature of statistics; basic concepts in statistics; statistical inquiries; forms and designs in statistical methods; statistics in scientific enquiries; data, population and samples; discrete and continuous variables; functional relationships; secondary & primary data; sources of data; methods of collecting primary data; etc. Also, the presentation f statistical data; frequency distributions; measures of central  tendencies; measures of dispersion in single and grouped data; skewness and Kurtosis; laws of probability; elementary probability distributions norrnal, binomial, Poisson and hyper-geometric distributions, etc.
